Ajijic expat senior abducted by strangers

A resident U.S. citizen, who wishes to remain anonymous, reports that she was snatched off the street Wednesday, February 1, while walking from Ajijic to shop at Walmart.

She describes a terrifying ordeal involving two men and a woman who kept her captive for close to two hours before setting her free on a back road near Ixtlahuacán de los Membrillos, making off with her backpack filled with personal belongings.

The elderly woman says she was strolling along the sidewalk adjacent to the service road in La Floresta when a reddish-brown new model sedan suddenly stopped next to her. A man in the back seat opened the door, threw a towel over her head and pulled her inside. He kept her pinned down as she sensed the female riffling through the bag while the male driver followed a circuitous route, stopping several times apparently to withdraw cash with her banking cards.

The victim doesn’t believe her Spanish-speaking abductors are local people, noting that they seemed unfamiliar with ATM locations.

Relieved to have been released without physical injury, she hopes making the incident public will serve as a warning to others.

She advises fellow expats to avoid walking around unaccompanied and leave unneeded valuables and important documents safely stored at home.
