Heritage Baptist Church

Hebrews 1:14: Are they not all ministering spirits sent out to serve for the sake of those who are to inherit salvation? One night more than 100 years ago, the Scottish missionary, John Paton and his wife were surrounded by cannibals. Filled with terror they prayed. As daylight dawned, they discovered that the tribesmen had retreated back into the forest. A year later the chief of that tribe was converted and the missionary asked him about that particular night. He wanted to know why they had not been killed. The Chief replied, “There were hundreds of tall men in shining garments with drawn swords, so we could not attack.”

These must have been the ministering angels of God. Angels are servants to those privileged to receive salvation. They are unseen and unheard. They are at the call of God and never the focus of the Christian and however marvelous they are, they pale into significance when compared to Christ.

Lakeside Presbyterian Church

Dr. Wayne Cooks’s sermon this Sunday addresses “To believe, or not to believe, that is the question.” The book of John 12:37-41 is the source of the generation of this question.

Jesus had revealed in many different ways that he was the promised Messiah. He performed miracles and spoke with a wisdom greater than Solomon. His actions were the same for all, but the reactions varied greatly.

Some witnesses believed clay softened under the rays of the sun. Some were indifferent like a rock that remains unchanged by such exposure. And some became filled with hate, like clay that becomes hard and unyielding.

The difference was not in the Son, but in the makeup of the heart.

Join us on Sunday as we explore the verses in John.

The English-language service is at 9:30 a.m., which also streams live at facebook.com/LPCChapala. The Spanish-language service begins at 11 a.m.
