Riberas del Pilar sewage project moves forward

The completion of new sewage system infrastructure to service properties located in Riberas del Pilar will take about one year, according to a progress report provided by Chapala government officials at a meeting with residents held on Saturday, April 27.

The estimated timeframe, however, could be altered if the project is scrapped by the new municipal administration taking office on October 1.

pg11aThe meeting was led by Antonio Monreal Mendoza, director of Simapa, the municipal Water and Sewage Authority. He explained that the project entails the installation of underground sewage pipelines throughout the neighborhood, along with the construction of several sumps for collecting wastewater that will be pumped to sewage treatment plants (PTARs) in Chapala or San Antonio Tlayacapan. The Chapala PTAR is more distant than San Antonio, but better equipped to handle added volumes of sewage.

Monreal announced that the local government would cover most of the project’s costs, with homeowners to be assessed a one-time fee of 4,800 pesos to have their pipelines extended to the sidewalk in front of their properties. Homeowners will also be responsible for the work required to connect to the system.
