Fourth of July restaurant options

Manix Restaurant is throwing what is being billed as a “real” Fourth of July Celebration on July 4, 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on the malecon next to the Ajijic pier. The buffet with grilled chicken, BBQ pork ribs, potato salad, fresh green salad, baked beans, vegetable salad and fresh fruit salad will be topped off with home made ice cream. Frankie Dino will provide the entertainment and a cash bar will be open. Tickets are 180 pesos and are on sale now. The telephone number is 766-0061.

Hope House tackles aquaponics project

Kids at a local children’s home are taking part in a state-of-the-art aquaponics project that uses the same water in which fish are raised and harvested to irrigate organically grown vegetables.

Two groups to be busy at July 2 CAN/AM festival

The Storytellers will have a booth at the Lake Chapala Society (LCS) CAN/AM festival on Monday, July 2 so that Lakeside authors can sell their books.

Shriners helping outside the box

President of the Ajijic Shrine Club, Cesar Rubio, delivered a “tough terrain” wheel chair purchased by local individuals to help out Mauricio, whose wheel chair had been worn out on cobblestone streets. Shriner Noble Bill Phillips was recently in San Antonio Tlayacapan to have his car fixed. While in the workshop he noticed a young man without legs working by pulling himself from place to place around the shop on his knees.

Ajijic Rotary hosts indigenous children

Several indigenous children from the Sierra Tarahumara enjoyed boat rides while traveling through Lakeside on their school graduation trip. The Rotary Club of Ajijic recently hosted 38 sixth grade students who attend school in the upper reaches of the Copper Canyon.
